Snacks for school

Woah, was I in for a crazy surprise when our son began kindergarten half-days...I never knew that parents volunteered, or that you could provide snacks for the whole class. The ideas are almost endless, but when I need to think of one at the store...grr...my mind wanders and would get lost. I realized, a list of ideas would help! Now their little faces light up when they see me bring snacks in, because they know it will be something cool. That feeling is PRICELESS! The idea is to feel confident and deliver the snacks with panache.  Soooooo, I made a list...maybe you can use it, maybe not, anyhow...here it is...

Carrot and or celery sticks or cucumber sticks and cheese cubes...

Strawberries, Snap peas, Cucumber slices...

Trail mix…Unsweetened raisins, coconut, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds…no nuts though! I bet someone has an allergy!

Natural fruit leather (costco has some great fruit leather and dried fruit, but you have to read the label for weird ingredients like dyes, sulpher, and added sugar.)

Homemade quick breads/muffinsthere is a recipe for healthy banana blueberry cake/muffins on my blog…The kids all loved it. http://kodiakislandrawadventure.blogspot.com/2012/04/healthy-vegan-banana-blueberry-muffin.html

Caprese kabobs (cheese cube or ball, cherry tomato, and fresh basil leaf on a toothpick.)

Mini fruit kabob...use orange wedges, watermelon, and strawberries

Graham crackers and cream cheese topped with fruit…like a mini fruit pizza is a real crowd pleaser!

Hummus and vegetable sticks rolled up in a tortilla and sliced in rounds.

Surprise them with mini bananas!

Kid salad (spinach leaves with an eraser sized piece of goat cheese topped with a raisin, or a dried cranberry sweetened with apple juice.) http://kodiakislandrawadventure.blogspot.com/2013/01/how-to-get-your-kid-to-eat-spinach-and.html

Dehydrated Cheesy Kale chips (the recipe I found is AMAZING!)

Pickles and ? Homemade granola bars, Mini sandwiches, … the list goes on and on…send me some of your ideas…please!

I have so many cool ideas for kid snacks, and I am sure all of you do too…let’s collaborate our efforts! If everyone signs up for a day a month, our kids will have an awesome snack at school. Plus the bonus is, kids are always proud when it’s a snack that they helped prepare! I like to serve snacks in cute muffin papers, they are cheap, and less waste than a paper plate. Healthy snacking!
